Alpaca Shearing Table

The Softfoot shearing table has been designed to reduce stress on the alpaca and the human handlers.

The extra low loading position allows for lifting alpaca from the cush position as well as the standing position.

The table uses a pneumatic ram to do the lifting instead of the handlers, thus reducing back injury and physical capability requirement.

View the table in action in this Youtube video.

Procedure:

Bring the alpaca to the table and secure neck rope and belly sling.
Once the animal is secure, raise the table.
Like other shearing tables once the table is horizontal, the handler reaches in and and secures the alpaca feet in the restraints and tensions until the animal is under control.

The shearer completes one side and alpaca is rotated like on a spit and the other side is shorn.
Rotate animal back again and release leg restraints for dismount.

Under no circumstances lower the table with alpaca's legs still in the restraints.

Release neck strap but maintain hand grip, then lower the table and release neck and belly strap as alpaca's feet contact the floor.
